Schutz American School is a co-educational day school enrolling students in from PreK-3 through 12th grade. The school is located in Alexandria, Egypt on the shores of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
Accreditation: Schutz is accredited by, the New England Association of Schools (NEASC) and colleges, as well as, the Council of International Schools (CIS).
Organization: The School is governed by a 13-member self-perpetuating Board of Trustees, serving renewable 3-year terms.
Faculty: In the 2008-2009 school year, there are 39 full-time and 5 part-time faculty members, including 26 U.S. citizens, 11 host-country nationals, and 7 third-country nationals. The administrative team is comprised of a Head of School, Lower School Principal, Upper School Principal, and Dean of Students.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 254 (Pre-K 3-grade 6: 151; grades 7-12: 103). Of the total, 64 were U.S. citizens, 122 were host-country nationals, and 68 were third-country nationals. Of the U.S. enrollment, 2 were dependents of U.S. government direct-hire or contract employees, 25 were dependents of U.S. business or foundation employees and the other 37 were dependents of private U.S. citizens.
Facilities: The school operates on 2 campuses - one for the lower school (PreK-grade 6) and one for the upper school (grades 7-12). Athletic facilities include lit courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium/weight room. Other facilities include an auditorium with theater capabilities, two conference rooms, 2 libraries, 2 computer laboratories, an art center, a cafeteria, and a snack bar.
