PTA Activities Include:
- Our main goal is to INCREASE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. (Studies show membership in the PTA provides your child and other children with a greater chance of achievement in school. PTA members are more likely to be informed parents.)
- Sponsor fund raising events like Bingo Night in order to purchase miscellaneous items for the school outside the budget. (We purchased a climbing wall for the playground in 2006-2007.)
- Serve as liaison for parents to the Board of Trustees if they have comments, suggestions, or concerns.
- Foster the Schutz Family atmosphere by holding fun events for the Schutz Community to "get together" such as the Christmas Play Day and the New to Schutz Barbecue.
The best thing you can do is to recruit and spread the involvement. Let it be known that no task is to small! We like to match skills and talents to tasks, and everyone has a skill or talent. Helping could mean greeting other parents at an event, baking some brownies, making a banner, showing children how to do arts and crafts, or helping during a PTA event such as Bingo Night, or the Mini-Marathon.
How Much Time is Involved
Give what you can. We won't "throw you to the sharks" and expect you to organize a major event right away, unless it is what you desire of course. We respect people's time constraints, and we look for a healthy balance between work, fun, personal time, and the PTA time. Whether you can find a few minutes a week, an hour a month, or can volunteer only once a year, your child and school will benefit.
Room Parents
Room parents may assist teachers in several ways:
- They allow teachers freedom to focus on educating students by being responsible for support activities.
- They enrich your child's school experience by offering more personal attention than possible from the teacher alone.
- They get parents involved, leading to a closer relationship between parents and their children.
- Help organize class parties, such as Halloween and Valentine's Day
- Coordinate the efforts of other volunteer parents
- Make phone calls
- Join the fun on a field trip
- Help non-English speaking parents communicate with teachers
Because you are needed. The children, the teachers, the other parents, and all the school appreciates what you do. As the children see you help out, they learn from observation!
How much time is involved?
Give only what you are able. You will not be sucked into a "black hole" of commitment. Being a room parent is fun, rewarding, and enjoyable!
