Technology

At Schutz American School, we believe that technology plays a vital role in supporting our mission to provide a premier education that empowers all of our students to pursue their passions as confident global citizens. We understand that technology and learning are intertwined, and that technology can greatly enhance the learning experience of our students. By leveraging the power of technology, we can create an environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and other important skills that our students will need to succeed in college and the workplace. Through the integration of technology in our classrooms, we aim to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

At Schutz American School, we expect all members of our community to use technology ethically and responsibly. We help both our teachers and students understand and appreciate the potential of technology in academic, social, and personal contexts. Schutz is committed to staying at the forefront of technology, and we have implemented several initiatives to achieve this goal.

One of our major initiatives is the 1:1 program, which provides our youngest learners with iPads, our elementary students with Chromebooks and allows students in middle and high school to bring their own device to school. For middle and high school students, allowing them to use the device that they are most comfortable with and giving them access to their own personal files and resources benefits and better prepares them for their future. In addition, we have a Design Technology class in middle school that provides students with the opportunity to learn about and use various technologies in a hands-on setting.

Schutz also uses the Google Workspace for Education  platform, used by millions of students and educators worldwide as a core suite of productivity applications offered by Google to schools and other educational institutions. These communication and collaboration apps include Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Sites, and a G Suite account gives access to many other collaborative tools supported by Google. All of these applications are online, which means they can be accessed from any device with an internet connection anywhere in the world.

By incorporating the ISTE standards into our IB (K-8) and High School curriculum, we are able to provide our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the 21st century. Our students learn how to use technology to learn, communicate, and collaborate, and they develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for success in college and the workplace. In addition, the ISTE standards help us ensure that our students are able to make the most of the technology available to them, and that they are able to use it in a responsible and ethical manner. Overall, the integration of the ISTE standards into our curriculum is an important part of our commitment to providing our students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a technology-driven world.

In addition to integrating the ISTE standards into our curriculum, we also place a strong emphasis on maintaining a high-speed internet infrastructure at our school. We understand that internet access and online subscriptions are essential tools for our students, and we work hard to ensure that our students have access to the resources they need to succeed. We have a robust network that supports a wide range of online activities, including research, communication, and collaboration. In addition, we provide our students with access to a range of digital tools and resources, including online databases, educational software, and learning management systems. By investing in a strong internet infrastructure and providing our students with access to the digital tools and resources they need, we are able to support their learning and help them succeed in their academic pursuits.
