Schutz American School is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducation school which offers an American-based educational program.
At Schutz American School, we believe in technology integration and innovation. As a school striving toward becoming both a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and an International Baccalaureate (IB) institution, we encourage continuous inquiry and foster productive collaboration. Effective technology implementation is essential to create and maintain an environment that enables creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving…the complete skillset our students will need for college and the workplace. Our digital literacy and other technology curricula are part of an overall lifelong learning model for our students to embrace.
All stakeholders in the Schutz community are charged with using technology in an ethical and responsible manner. We ensure both our teachers and students understand and respect the power of technology across academic, social and personal contexts. Schutz strives to be perpetually on the cutting edge of 21-century hardware and software. 3D printing, robots…just dreams of the future? No, these exciting innovations are already being successfully used in Schutz classrooms. Perhaps the most significant change in how teaching and learning are accomplished has been via the laptop/tablet initiative.
Schutz American School is the only school in Egypt (that we know of) that features a 1:1 Chromebook program! As of 2017-18, each student in grades 5 through 12 has a personal Chromebook. Kids in the other grades currently share Chromebooks on carts. And 2018 marked the first purchase of iPad Minis for our youngest students. These tablets will make even more Chromebooks available to the older learners.
The Chromebook and tablet initiatives seek to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities for student learning that infusing technology into the Schutz curriculum has offered and will continue to make available. The Schutz team is savvy, forward-thinking and ready to take on the challenges of 21st-century education.
Careful planning and great effort are being invested to ensure that the transition from a traditional textbook model to one using laptops/tablets is smooth, and that we are able to effectively support students and teachers so they can be successful in this modern paradigm of teaching and learning.
Millions of students and educators worldwide rely on the Google G Suite for Education platform as a core suite of productivity applications that Google offers to schools and related educational institutions. These communication and collaboration apps include GMail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sites, and a G Suite account unlocks access to dozens of other collaborative tools supported by Google. All of these applications exist completely online, meaning that everything can be accessed from any device anywhere in the world via an internet connection.
