Clubs and Organizations

At Schutz American School, we believe in a holistic approach to education and that includes having fun! After School Activities (ASAs) are an excellent way to learn, develop skills and talents and build confidence.

We offer a wide range of activities from sports, martial arts, dancing, cooking, jewelry making, yoga, handwriting, reading stories…and so much more. We encourage all of our students to sign up for an after school activity.

There are four ASA seasons throughout the school year. Each season offers many different activities for students in grades K-12. Sign up is done through the use of google forms sent home to the parents via the school portal. Parents have the opportunity to sign up their child for any appropriate activity.

Because Schutz is a small school with a cohesive community, many students have the opportunity to assume a leadership position in an organization or club and/or join a sports team by the time they graduate. Again, working on the importance of the whole child and building the skill set that we want our graduates to learn.

Sports and club offerings vary from year to year depending on student interest and participation.

The Elementary School has an active Student Council. Representatives are selected from Grades 2-5. The purpose of the Student Council is to help foster leadership skills, promote school spirit, encourage friendship, and support a local charity. This group is also charged with bringing student concerns to light and actively working to solve problems that may arise. Some of the activities sponsored by the Student Council are School Spirit Week, Movie Night, and Love in a Box.

The objective of the Middle School/High School Student Council is to establish and maintain a medium for exchanging ideas helpful to students and for promoting the growth of student participation.

Students will learn the basic structure of governing to help identify and address issues important to the student body. The focus includes promoting positive relationships between all members of the school community, enhancing school spirit, and supporting community service projects.

Model United Nations is open to all students in the High School in grades 9 through 12. There is also a separate MUN club providing opportunities for students in grades 6-8. Students interested in MUN are encouraged attend one of the bimonthly club meetings. Well qualified delegates have the opportunity to travel to various conferences internationally. Currently the school participates in the CACMUN conference in Cairo and the THIMUN conference in Holland.

Schutz MUN also organizes the Schutz International School Model United Nations Conference (SASMUN), created in 2012. SASMUN is a one day MUN conference planned, organized, and run by students.

Bimonthly parliamentary-style debates are held which are open to anyone wishing to attend. These debates are planned and chaired by MUN students. It is during these debates that students practice and hone MUN-related skills.
